Consul General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, Alexi Gunasekera, together with Head of Chancery Subhashini Silva, met with Marcelo Garcia, Vice President – Aeropolitical Affairs and International Affairs, Emirates, and Mariam Al Qassab, Manager – International Government Affairs, Executive Management, Emirates.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Emirates and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in promoting Sri Lanka as a preferred tourism destination, particularly through the extensive Emirates network.
Discussions covered opportunities to promote MICE tourism, wedding and destination tourism, leisure travel, and other specialized tourism segments, as well as the organization of familiarization (FAM) tours to Sri Lanka for travel trade representatives, media and influencers.
The discussions also explored ways in which Emirates and the Consulate General could work more closely together to increase tourist arrivals from the UAE and key international markets, while creating greater awareness of Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings.
The Consul General highlighted Sri Lanka’s ambition to welcome three million international tourists, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships with leading global airlines such as Emirates in achieving this target.
Both sides agreed to explore practical initiatives and joint promotional opportunities that could further strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as an attractive destination for tourism, business events, weddings and investment.
