Consulate General of Sri Lanka coordinates financial assistance and donation of emergency relief items to assist victims of “Ditwah Cyclone”

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai commends the generous support extended by members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, associations, corporate partners and well-wishers whose timely assistance has provided much-needed relief to affected families due to adverse weather conditions of “Ditwah cyclone”. 

In response to the urgent humanitarian needs arising from the cyclone, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, in coordination with Sri Lanka community in the UAE, charity organizations, Associations, and well-wishers, facilitated the mobilization of financial assistance worth of SLRS 42.9 MN as well as the collection and dispatch of relief items of 35 OOO Kgs. These contributions include dry rations, baby foods, clothing, hygiene kits, and other essential goods required for immediate relief and recovery efforts.

A 40-foot container has been loaded with (dry rations) with Frico cargo including items of rice, dhal, baby food, milk powder, tea, sugar, canned food, clothes, sanitary napkins, stationary items and shoes. The weight of the 40-foot container is 26 300Kg (rice 10 953Kg, sugar 50Kg, Dhal 435 Kg, Atta flour 575 Kg). Further, this Post has dispatched a several consignments of the donations of relief items weights around 6000 Kg comprised with essential items such as rice, wheat flour, gum boots 505 Nos., dry rations and clothes with Emirates Sky Cargo and FitsAir Cargo. A total of 32 300 Kg relief items has been dispatched as of 12.12.2025 and continue to contribute to the country’s emergency relief assistance.

The financial contributions coordinated by the Consulate General office through officially designated relief channels to support emergency response measures, rehabilitation of affected communities stands at AED 511 995 (SLRS 42.9 MN) can be highlighted as follows:

Sri Lanka Quantity Surveyors Association in the UAE AED 100 000 (Approximately SLRS 8.4 MN)

Sri Lanka Professional’s Association AED 62 200 (Approximately SLRS 5.2 MN),

TRISTAR Company (well-wishers): AED 300 000 (SLRS 25 MN)

Jain SEVA Mission contribution USD 10 000.00 / AED 36000 (SLRS 03 MN)- Direct deposit

Individual contributions deposited/ handed over to the Consulate General: AED 13795 (SLRS 11, 55371.26)

Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates, Alexi Guasekera expressed his sincere gratitude to all contributors who supported this humanitarian initiative and reiterates its unwavering commitment to assisting Sri Lanka during times of need. The Consul General further stated that the Consulate remains committed to coordinating humanitarian assistance and working closely with relevant authorities in Sri Lanka to ensure that aid reaches those most in need in an efficient and transparent manner.

In response to the urgent humanitarian needs arising from recent adverse conditions in Sri Lanka, FRICO Cargo, Emirates Airline and FitsAir extended their cooperation by providing cargo facilities on FOC basis for the shipment of essential relief items coordinated by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai. These consignments included vital supplies such as dry food items, hygiene products, clothing, and other essential materials required for immediate relief operations.

The timely assistance provided by both airlines and FRICO Cargo has played a crucial role in ensuring the swift delivery of relief items to affected areas in Sri Lanka, enabling local authorities and humanitarian agencies to respond effectively to the needs of impacted communities.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai expresses its deep appreciation to Emirates Airline and Air Arabia for their humanitarian commitment, corporate social responsibility, and continued partnership with Sri Lanka during times of national need. This cooperation reflects the strong and enduring relationship between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the valuable role played by leading UAE-based carriers in supporting global humanitarian efforts.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai extends its gratitude to members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, partner organizations, UAE residents and well-wishers who contributed to the collection, packing, and coordination of the relief cargo and remains committed to working closely with its partners to support Sri Lanka’s recovery and relief initiatives.
